Retirement for the Un-Retiring

This is the motto of Living Choice, one of Australia’s best providers of housing for aging people.

You may be familiar with their award-winning apartments at Fullarton and their retirement homes at Woodcroft.  Or perhaps you have heard about their rejuvenation of Flagstaff Hill Golf Course with apartments and townhouses for retirees.

Living Choice’s latest venture is what they call a “land lease community” in the Glenlea Estate at Mount Barker.

Residents purchase the dwelling and lease the land from Living Choice.  Living Choice has an ongoing role in managing the public realm and other excellent communal facilities.

The cost of initial purchase is lowered providing an alternative affordable housing model.

A well-established housing model interstate, land-lease communities are starting to gain traction in South Australia.  They are described as “residential parks” in the SA planning system.

The Mount Barker development involves 215 single storey houses with a community facility, communal bowling green, swimming pool and more.  It looks and feels like a well-designed and well-maintained small suburb.

Council staff were complimentary of the development application documentation put together by the skilled design team of CED Building Design, WGA, Clover, Bestec, Adelaide Arb Consultants and URPS.  The Council Assessment Panel unanimously supported Planning Consent.

Another great development by Living Choice providing an alternative affordable housing model for retirees that looks appealing to people of all ages.
