Great New and Improved Open Space Assets

There are several terrific new Government-led projects in South Australia that will help expand the community’s access to open space and associated recreation experiences.

URPS has been busy helping SA Water get the necessary planning approvals in place for the opening of Hope Valley, Happy Valley and Mount Bold reservoirs reserves to public access and recreational use. This includes walking trails, picnic facilities and, in some instances, kayaking.

We have prepared a development application for Stage 1 of the new Glenthorne National Park – Ityamaiitpinna Yarta. This includes an exciting adventure playground and adaptive re-use of some State Heritage listed buildings brought to life by Phillips Pilkington Architects and TCL.

We have been helping TCL with the opening of the Hindmarsh Valley National Park.  This is another new national park that will protect the land’s high conservation value and will unlock the area visitor to enjoy mountain biking and walking trails, also providing recreational opportunities for people with accessibility requirements. We also assisted TCL with the Breakout Creek Stage 3 Redevelopment which will rebuild the River Torrens (Karrawirra Pari) from an artificial channel to a more natural one through realigning the channel, removing weeds and establishing native vegetation.

We have also lent a hand with Stage 3 of the upgrade of Sturt Reserve at Murray Bridge, another State Heritage Place, based on the great design work of Aspect Studio and Mulloway Studio.

These new or improved public open space assets will do much to enhance SA’s reputation as simply a great place to live and recreate.
