Yorke Peninsula Wind Farm

A $1.6 billion, 630-megawatt wind farm on the Yorke Peninsula.

Includes 170 turbines that are 220m high with a rotor diameter of 160m. There is also a high voltage, undersea cable across the Gulf of St Vincent, coupled with a synchronous condenser and flywheel with no overhead power lines. It generates enough electricity to power 225,00 homes in Adelaide.

URPS added value by responding to the objections of the local council and many in the community in compelling ways. We convinced the State Commission Assessment Panel that concerns about visual impact, bird strike, noise and bushfire risk were all appropriately managed. All turbines were carefully located at least 2kms from coastal settlements and 1.3m’s from neighbouring houses, exceeding separation distance guidelines.
