Alberton Oval, Port Adelaide

A $30 million upgrade of home of Port Adelaide’s AFL teams.

A state-of-the-art high performance training facility, as well as indoor basketball courts, improved light towers to enable TV broadcasting, and more car parking. Importantly, it included women’s change rooms to facilitate AFLW matches and training. It is suitable for local community use including for dog walking, as well as by the West Adelaide Bearcats Basketball Club and the North-West Junior Soccer Association. A clever aspect of this development is the dual use of the soccer pitch as additional car parking on AFL or AFLW event days to alleviate car parking pressure on the surrounding streets.

URPS added value by managing the voluntary community engagement process for residents in the two Council areas surrounding the oval. URPS also added value by facilitating changes to the Community Lands Management Plan and obtaining Planning Consent in the face of considerable opposition from some residents.
