URPS worked closely with the Resilient South partner councils to develop the Resilient South Regional Climate Action Plan. URPS layered deep understanding of projected climate change impacts; the local environmental, social and economic setting; state and local government policy; and best practise climate change planning with extensive community and stakeholder engagement to produce a plan that will drive change.
URPS led engagement with Kaurna, young people, businesses and the wider community to inform this project. This helped to raise awareness of climate change and Resilient South, identify community priorities and opportunities for action, and understand how the community expects their councils to respond to climate change. Council engagement developed buy-in from staff and Elected Members. Engagement with state and local government partners provided the opportunity to understand the perspectives, priorities and current actions of these partners, and to draw upon local capacity and regional projects to strengthen Resilient South’s climate action approach.
URPS consolidated this information into a concise strategic plan which clearly articulates Resilient South’s priorities for climate action over the coming years.
