URPS collaborated with Campbelltown City Council to assess their community’s need for cool spaces during extreme heat. Informed by a literature review, expert interviews, and extensive community engagement, a Cool Space Action Plan and materials for a trial project were developed.
URPS supported a Cool Spaces trial during summer 2024 by creating a Communications Plan, promotional materials, delivering a staff training session, and preparing venue checklists and feedback forms.
URPS added value by:
- Establishing a Cool Spaces Community Working Group to ensure community priorities were embedded at the heart of the project.
- Collaborating closely with the council including co-designing the pilot project to ensure it was practical and implementable.
- Delivering an engaging online webinar to more than 140 people from across Australia to share practical tips for establishing cool spaces.
