The Accommodation Diversity Code Amendment shapes how retirement and aged care sites are developed in existing neighbourhoods. The Draft Amendment proposed to enable 4-6 storey development on sites exceeding 1ha.
During consultation, URPS helped seven leading accommodation providers to understand how the Draft affected their sites. The Draft Policy did not create the desired uplift in many cases.
URPS added value by analysing the reach of the Draft Policy. We explained that a low percentage of metropolitan sites would qualify for the height uplift. We also provided analysis to support less severe setback requirements. Our submissions provided a unified voice for the industry. The final policy adopted many of our recommendations and reduced the site area threshold to 6,500m².
